“Scarlet Quest” by Fantasy Author A.J. Martinez is truly an astounding book that will have you clinging on to the edge of your seat from start to finish. Fantasy, Action, Adventure and Magic all collide and set the backbone for this epic story that is not for the faint of heart.

Main Character, Auron Fox is developed perfectly with an infamous personality that will make your skin crawl with every turning of the page. I personally thought that the battle scenes were also vividly illustrated and described placing me in the center of all the action. The quest begins to find a magical jewel that holds the elemental key to more then meets the eye. Will it be found? Well, I can’t through out any spoilers, but can only say that the end will take your breath away and leave you wanting more from Author A.J. Martinez. I am glad to see that he has written more then one book, as I am quickly becoming a fan of his works…

If you like fantasy, filled with action and adventure then this is the book for you. 5 Stars!

I love this book and hope many more come out in the future it's cheap, and a good read buy it you won't regret it
Scarlet Quest by A.J. Martinez is a fantasy that has an interesting storyline. I agree with other readers that this seems like a book that might have been poorly translated from another language. There are problems with the use of present and past tenses in many cases and also other grammatical issues. I think a good editor would have made a world of difference with this book. Again, I feel this author has some good story ideas, I just wish I could have gotten past the issues the book has.
I used to read a lot of fantasy novels when I was younger. I don’t read so many these days except when they happen across my desk as this one did.

One of the things that I always liked was the fact that you pretty much knew what you were going to get with a fantasy novel. Boy meets girl, has a run in with a bunch of baddies who get everyone mixed up in some sort of mess that requires sorting out by the hero and heroine. Usually, the boy and girl are evenly matched and the girl is almost always a strong female character, giving a great role model to younger readers today. This book didn’t disappoint in that respect.

My only real criticism was that the author had a habit of changing tense and style mid paragraph, which could be very disconcerting at times.
Scarlet Quest, part of the World of Odealeous series by A.D. Martinez tells the story of Auron, a mercenary who kills people in order to insure peace and prosperity for his village. The moral quandary that this causes creates inner tension within Auron, as he faces enemies who threaten both him and his village.

This alternate world of Odealeous is set in a medieval like society, but there are other countries with more advanced technology such as Ironside, a city state that is similar to the nineteenth century with magic and unique cultures such as the Amaranth tribe where Auron grew up. The plot line is an exciting adventure in quest for the Crimson Cosmo Jewel, a gem of one of the dragon gods with rumored powers that would allow the reader to dominate the world and perhaps even bring people back from the dead. King Richard certainly hopes that is true as he send Auron to fetch the jewel to revive his deceased son.

Scarlet Quest examines the concepts of peace at any cost, and what makes a tyrant choose his actions. Although King Richard is never a sympathetic character, his actions are based in ideas that are understandable from his point of view. It also shows a band of mercenaries with total loyalty to their leader. It is a fast paced adventure that does not get bogged down with detail. Martinez does a good job of explaining how the element based magic works.

The characters, except for maybe Auron could have been better developed. At times their actions seem rather random because of this lack of development, although I understand that they were being manipulated. Scarlet Quest focuses primarily on the journey of Auron, as he develops the understanding that the mercenary life will not give him the peace he seeks, and as he understands his greater responsibility to Odealeous.
I've been reading epic fantasy novels for years now, and this book contains one of the most imaginative worlds I've come across so far. The cast of characters is also well thought out and varied, adding to the epic scope of the story. One thing that sets this book apart in the genre is the presence of a strong female protagonist. Too often, women are given secondary and more or less stereotypical roles in fantasy novels, so it was a welcome surprise to encounter a strong main heroine taking part in this tale.

This is a quest-type story, where the main character is set the task of finding a special item, a jewel, to save himself and the people he loves. He is joined in this quest by a varied group of side characters and together they must fight off all sorts of obstacles, including some very interesting magical creatures. The book starts out with heavy action, and the rest of the story is just as fast paced. There were no sections that dragged, and the language flowed nicely throughout. I was easily transported into this magical land, and found myself thinking about the characters, and what would happen next even when I wasn't reading. I also really liked the magical system in this book. It is original and unique, and very well explained.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review, and I recommend it to all fans of the epic fantasy genre!
